Algonquin Haliburton Forest Loop
Route was created with assistance from Thom Lambert who designs several routes in the Haliburton area.
This bikepacking loop takes in some of the best backcountry dirt riding through Algonquin and the Haliburton Forest. Expect a fair amount of elevation changes, a bounty of forest lined gravel roads and fetching lake views. It makes use of portion of both the Hasty Highlander and Hasty Highlander Lite routes. Most riders will be able to complete the route in 2 to 3 days. In some areas expect spotty cell service and the need to be self sufficient.
To ride through the Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve a day pass is needed. It can be purchased ahead of time here: https://www.haliburtonforest.com/book-online/book-property-day-pass/
It's also possible to spend more time exploring the backcountry roads and trails in the reserve. Here is a map of the routes available: https://www.haliburtonforest.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/HFsummer_Map2020_Nov2020-min-1-scaled.jpg
Riders should also purchase a park permit for Algonquin Provincial Park. This can be obtained at the Visitor Centre at the 200km mark of the route.
The route starts in Haliburton, but can be commenced anywhere along the route that meets a riders needs.
